How it works

A planned week, agreed with you

Exceed does not run a school and does not replace you as your child’s educator. We provide the specialist teaching, set work and progress reporting that makes home education manageable and evidenced.

  • A planned week, agreed with you. Live 1-to-1 lessons in the subjects you choose, with independent work set and marked between them.
  • Taught to the exam board. GCSE and IGCSE courses following AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC or Cambridge specifications, so work maps to real papers.
  • Written records you can keep. A diagnostic, a term plan and a report after every lesson, useful if your local authority asks about provision.
  • Exams as a private candidate. We help you find an approved exam centre and plan the entries; the centre handles registration and fees.

Exceed Tutoring is a supplementary tuition service, not a registered school, and does not certify full-time education. Under section 7 of the Education Act 1996, parents remain responsible for ensuring their child receives a suitable education. GCSE exam entries, centre arrangements and fees are made directly with an approved exam centre.

FAQ

Home education questions

Do I need permission or a licence to home-educate?
No. In England and Wales, parents may educate their child at home under section 7 of the Education Act 1996, provided the education is suitable to the child’s age, ability and aptitude. If your child is currently on a school roll, you write to the school to deregister them. Exceed is a tuition provider, not a school, so nothing needs registering to use us.
Is Exceed a school or a full-time provider?
No. We provide supplementary one-to-one tuition and set work. We are not a registered school, do not take attendance responsibility, and do not certify that a child is receiving full-time education. Responsibility for the overall provision stays with you.
How do exams work?
Home-educated students sit GCSEs and IGCSEs as private candidates at an approved exam centre. We help you choose specifications with a private-candidate route (IGCSE English and Sciences, for example, avoid coursework and practical endorsements) and plan entries; the centre handles registration and charges its own fees.
What if the local authority asks about provision?
You may be asked informally to describe the education you provide. The diagnostic, the term plan and the written lesson reports are yours to keep and share if you choose. They show subjects, hours, progress and marking in a form that is easy to present.
How many hours should we do?
Most families run three to five hours of live tuition a week with roughly twice that in set independent work. We agree the hours with you at the academic review and adjust them each term.
